CSXT 8729 (YN3)

I went down to Huntington today (3/9) and managed to catch CSXT SD60M 8729 at the shops. The lighting was very poor, but something is better than nothing. The scheme doesn't look bad at all on the wide-cabs, in my opinion.

Two questions:

1.) Is this officially the second YN3?

2.) Were there any other YN3s there?

3.) Is this an ex-Con? And was it in blue before repaint?

Which, I guess, is actually four questions. Don't blame me. I'm a product of the South Carolina public education system.

according to the Bullsheet, it was still CRQ.

That was the only YN3 around. It'd be my guess that she's officially the second unit, as there have been reports on here about it.
I didn't get to see her prior to painting, unfortunately. Just post-shopping. 8-)

In my opinon, for what it's worth -- admittedly, not much -- YN3 is an approvement over YN2, but not Conrail blue. I do think 3 looks better on the SD50 than this one, but we've all seen more shots of that one than this one.

None of this matters, of course. But even a railfan has opinions.

Here's the best shot I could get of the rear. It's no different, really, from the 8503.
8729 was stuck between those two other SD60M's (plus being in the back of the shop), so the angles and quality aren't quite up to par. Photos were also taken with an extremely small (Largan) digital camera. Takes some work to get 'em to look presentable. ;-)

I think you're right. Almost all the 60M's went into new paint in the same general timeframe, I would guess the 60I's are about due for a 7 year overhaul too.

Could you let us know what other units were there? The 8725 is a recent YN2 repaint, and it looks like there were other units nearby that were in new paint. Thanks, Tim

Let's see if I can remember some of the notable engines that were spotted.
CW60AC 633 (YN2; fresh)
CW60AC 699 (YN2; Diversity)
CW44AC 44 (YN2)
SD70M 4678 (EMD Demo.; look for this one)
SD70M 4698 (YN2; fresh)
Super 7 3001 (GE paint)

That's about all I can remember. If I can recover the list I had, I'll post the rest of the units seen there. There were a couple SD38-2's (still in CR paint), but they've been there quite a while.

I for one am glad they kept the CR marker lights in place. In my opinion, those are cool on any paint scheme. I like the paint on this loco much better than the paint on the SD50. Maybe someday I'll see it on the Clinchfield.

Thank god, that new paint scheme looks better on a widecab than the SD50. Conrail go away.

Might have something to do with the subject of the thread being "Caution: Wet Paint"
Maybe if you would have made it something meaningful like "YN3: Who's next?" or something, someone may have actually read it.
