Took me 732 Days.......
Author: NS62590

to catch all 20 heritage units, but I did it.

After getting the text this morning that the NYC 1066 was parked in a good enough spot for photos in Conway, I just had to do it. Went there, and caught some other fun stuff on the way back to Ohio. Here's the catches from today.

Enjoy!
~Craig

1) NS 1066 (New York Central heritage) parked in Conway Yard.
2) Since my friend Bill who drove around today for me, is a former Y&S(Youngstown & Southeastern) employee - he went to say hi to some employees and I got to take a pic of some of their power.
3) Back "home" in Ohio, train 20R passes the old tower in Leetonia.

4) Unknown mixed freight with NS #9906 and a BNSF trailer passing west through Leetonia.
5) SD60E rebuild #6908 leading a CP unit as darkness (albeit it was dark and cloudy all day) falls over Leetonia)

Nice pictures. How is Leetonia to railfan? is the tower still owned by NS?

Leetonia is great. There's the bike trail there, a parking lot at the tower (I assume it's owned by NS not 100% on that though) only usually used when there's an auction going on and the people at the auction facility are GREAT about allowing railfans to use the lot. There's also a couple gravel or old brick street sections off the roads next to the corner bar on the "evening" side of the tracks too on both sides of Hazel Street. The 344 bridge is also a great spot, there's plenty of room to pull off and maneuver safely; just not a spot to sit for an extended period of time.

Getting to that reply from FEC2000 ... I wish I could favorite that :)

While I would question the "good spot" comment, glad you caught at least the top half of your #20 :)
As for the tower, NS does not own it and it has been moved from it's original location. The bike trail is along the former Erie Lisbon Branch that crossed on a diamond with movements controlled by that ex PRR tower.

Congratulations on your accomplishment. I am only half way there. I am trying to get them all in western PA. but I may not live that long : )

Thanks for the info about the tower. As for the "good spot" reaction - when you think of the alternatives to where it could have been in Conway, I'll gladly take the top half. I'll get a better shot in Toledo when I'm there for NTD in a couple weeks.

Thanks to all for the congratulatory remarks. It was a fun hunt. Still need the Conrail 8098 in position 1. But I've seen it behind NKP 765.

As info, the NYC passed work early this morning, trailing on a 65K. Look me up in Toledo, I'll be working at the Conrail Historical Society table.

Good job, mission accomplished!

It's interesting to see how people have approached the heritage units. Get each on them on their "own" heritage rails (good luck with Lackawanna), or get each unit leading (good luck with PennCentral), etc

Fortunately, the Penn Central made a few appearances as a leader before its potty got clogged and then its windshield got cracked. I'm curious to know if it is once-again leader qualified, although not placed on the point when it went east on its current 64R train.

The toughest one to get on home rails may end up being the Illinois Terminal; NS does have trackage rights, after all, on CP's ex-DL&W main line between Scranton and Binghamton along with the various DL&W bits-and-pieces it operates itself.

The H-unit that has been irrationally rare to see on home rails has been the Conrail unit. It and the N&W unit may be the only ones now that haven't yet been in oil-train service.

My area is ex-Conrail and it's SO frustrating it's been through once in non-765 deadheads in the last year. And now it's been on that 431-430 train in Illinois for the past month. Seems like it's never getting out of that. Wonder what will give

Yes. Other than the line up to Dover NJ, the Slateford PA run, and the Bingo portion you mentioned, there's very little DL&W territory in NS.

Illinois Terminal is interesting, too. I hadn't thought of how little NS now operates.

The N&W unit made a few cycles to NJ in ethanol service, but oil service has been rare to non-existent around here
