Well at least I got a photo this time...I guess.

Second time I've run into the NYC unit. Last time no camera, this time I had the camera.
NS train 311 being pulled into Elkhart yard Friday.
All three trains were moving.

Nice! Those tanks look brand new. Did you happen to see the build date? Oil tanks?

Btw, that is quite a feat to get a photo of the NYC unit between 2 moving trains!

Yes the tanks were new with a build date of 7-14. They didn't have head shields so I guess they are not for oil service.

Complete luck as I have 4 other frames with bad timing like the one below.

Some of the new oil-service tanks have the extra reinforcement built into the tank ends, so you don't have the visible shield.

Nice catch, I think it's a cool photo, especially knowing the story.

That is one beautiful engine that is very elusive. I was set up at Brimfield, Indiana one evening while it was approaching in the lead of some empty oil. To make a long story short it went into emergency in Kendallville, and was back on the move in a reasonable amount of time. However not before losing the late evening light I was going to use. ;(
