Eastern Railroad Discussion > New York and Greenwood Lake RailwayDate: 07/24/14 11:08 New York and Greenwood Lake Railway Author: irhoghead I recently came upon an article in a magazine about this railroad starting up service on the Dundee Spur back in 1997. They had only one customer at the time, but had hopes and plans for many more. Can anyone shed some light on how they fared, and what the status of this spur is today? Thanks.

They were doing alright for a little while mostly outbound construction debri but that dried up a few years back. I believe they still store equipment at their shop down off Passaic St and also now operate the Stourbridge line out of Lackawaxen PA. As far as I know, the Stourbridge line isn't being operated. A year or two ago, the Morristown and Erie was to operate the line but for reasons unknown, the deal fell through. NY&GL equipment ( a few passenger cars, a RS3 and E8) are stored in Port Jervis, NY. The NY&GL's E8 did make it to Spencer though and looked great. rfprr Date: 07/24/14 21:12 Re: New York and Greenwood Lake Railway Author: Lackawanna484 I haven't heard or seen anything about the NY&GL in quite a while. There were a few covered hoppers on the interchange track in Garfield last year, though.
Have to take a ride over there soon. There's an excellent smoked meat store (Janek's), a very good Polish bakery (Polonia) and a superb place for unusual dried chilis (Mexicana) nearby. |
