I don't always photograph the NS, but when I do........
Author: rfprr1

I try to get something else of interest along with it. I'm not a big fan of NS' colors.
I've always thought black and dulux gold would have looked a whole lot better, ala Erie freight colors.

But, with some arm twisting by a friend, I found myself in Phillipsburg, NJ yesterday where I found the NS to
be pretty busy. The interesting part though was what was under the NS: NYS&W T&HS's steam train with Chinese built 2-8-2 Mikado #142.

1. An eastbound (212?) crosses the Delaware River from PA into NJ on the former Central Railroad of New Jersey bridge.

2. Underneath, the 142 waits for it's 1130 departure time while another NS hotshot cruises overhead.

3. The 142 gets the "all clear" signal to head south on the former PRR Bel-Del line.

You don't always photograph NS, with photos like that maybe you should do a lot more as they are fantastic… Steve

Black and dulux would have been great, but think how great tuscan and deluxe would have been. Still, the evolving NS scheme with more white and additional striping has, I think, achieved a certain dignity; it's certainly far surpasses the predecessor "NW"
scheme of the early 1970s, and the plain jane schemes that followed.
