Eastern Railroad Discussion > River line washout...Date: 07/16/02 21:58 River line washout... Author: Pj Well, not exactly..
Spent the day in the greater Albany area, saw pretty much nothing! Drove around Selkirk, no foreign power to be seen. Still nice to see CR SD40-2's working around.. Everytime I went somewhere else, I saw a train entering or leaving the yard and not enough time to go get it... Headed down Route 9W, kept chasing an EOT signal, couldn't find the train, but found a green signal and no train to pass it. Did see a neat MOW vehicle going down the line, but no where to shoot it. Went over to the Hudson Line, and three trains went down the River Line. Went BACK to the River Line, and I heard the detectors going off for two Amtrak Trains. Not a good day. The only good side to this day, I was able to take a shot of GRMS1, saw a large local with two SD40-2's down the line next to the Selkirk FD (never have seen a train on this line), saw a nice car fire on I87, and I think someone jumped off of a bridge by Kinston on I87 (lots o PD cars, FD cars, 1 EMS and everyone looking over the bridge), and one good old Cold War site in Kingston. Anyone else have such a bad day? Date: 07/17/02 09:14 Re: River line washout... Author: Lackawanna484 Bummer.
I've found that staking out a place with a good book and the scanner works best there. You're gonna miss 75% anyway. If I'm in the Selkirk area, I usually try to monitor the yard channel (160.86?) around 7 am. They usually give a lineup for yard work, which is a good indication of what's in the pipe. Upbound River Line trains often get yarding instructions about Coxsackie or so, so that's a 45 min. They usually remind the east end switcher about inbound Boston Line trains, same for guys working the west end. Safety first! Cops will sometimes be directed to eyeball outbound TOFC, too. Date: 07/18/02 11:56 Re: River line washout... Author: NH2006 I had a good day on Saturday up there, but with the trackwork going on the River Line, it has been slow. Three times recently been up there and seen only occasional UP or CN, GRS and CP #259 arriving about 4pm or so....
Try running up to Kenwood yard for a cople of trains, maybe Mahwak yard too.
