On Animal planet now 7:30 PM is a show like ax men and ice road truckers sort of. Only this show is the Alaska railroad. Thankfully not as drama filled.

the writer ment it not to be. Its just a show of folks who live off the grid and far into the Alaska backwoods. It also provides an overview of the Alaska Railroad in harsh condition and what it takes to keep it open. Fact is, its loosing money. Check the stock price

I like how they elevate ditch cleaning to a fever pitched climax. Nevertheless, it is a good way for the public to learn about railroading, especially in the snow and ice. Those SD70's look great, too.

Amazing how many people living along the line scrape together a living in such harsh conditions. They always seem to have a decent snowmobile.

Oh God, not this topic again. ;-)

BTW, they are called snow machines up here. If you call it a snowmobile, Alaskans know you are from the lower-48.

Hey, a "snow machine" down here is used to make snow, something we often need to make on ski slopes, as we don't get a much as Alaska. <G>
