67Z starting to put its empty crude oil train together at Phillips in Linden NJ. NS 8120 on the point NS 8023 & NS 1037 DPU will be 8112 if it goes with one @ 2:45pm

thanks for the update

I went by about ten after four, and it looked like the train was ready to go. nothing left in the racks, three engines on the front, one on the rear.

Heard them on the radio talking about leaving that last engine behind

Pretty much standard procedure. The rear unit is used to build the outbound train, then gets left behind for the next one. No need for DPU's on an empty train.

Back before the oil boom, NS 67Z used to be a Westbound steel slab symbol...Dave W.

thanks for mentioning that. I was surprised to see one operating DPU on yesterday's 67z through Phillipsburg NJ, with three engines up front. First time I've seen that happen. I figured they wanted the power someplace west.
