They were CAT-powered, modified SD-50's (or 60's). Are these still around somewhere, or were they prototypes that are gone? Just curious about what became of them.

Nine of them were stored out of service (4000, 4002, 4003, 4005, 4006, 4007, 4009, 4011, 4300) and two others returned from Chattanooga dead-in-tow (4004, 4010). It could be they were all waiting for parts or some other reason. In my opinion, the future does not look good for these units (Again, my opinion ONLY!)

Author: junctiontower The sooner Caterpillar quits screwing around with prime movers that were not specifically designed for locomtive use, the better off they will be. Either figure out how to make the 710 work, move on to the 265 or design something new from the ground up, but quit wasting time with this junk.
