What is that? Baltimore MD question...
Author: RAILWATCH

While just browsing google maps, I came across this locomotive? in a yard in Baltimore MD.

Unsure if it's still there, don't know how up to date maps are, but it sits in a yard with E Fort Ave to the North, Andre St to the West, and E McComas St to the South - near the port, in the Locust Point neighborhood..

I took a screen shot of the unit in question:

Looks like a Vanderbilt tender to me.

Some sort of large tender. It has been there for at least several years and seems to get moved around sometimes. No clue why it is there.

Pretty sure it belongs to the B&O Museum, you're looking at Locust Point Yard (I recognize the ethanol facility at the top of the image) and up until about a year ago, overflow equipment from the museum was stored at Mt. Clare. Last year, CSX relocated the equipment as much as possible to the museum area, and the remainder is shuffled around periodically as circumstances dictate.

I believe that it came out of a wreck train sometime ago. If it's to go to the B&O Railroad Museum I would not know for what purpose as they do not have any steam engine there that needs a tender. And besides, the B&O R.R. Museum is not taking care of what they have already; case in point - look at the Reading 2101 as AFT #1 sitting outside collecting rust. Look at their passenger cars all sitting outside collecting rust. We've been down this road before.

There's lots of museums out there that acquire potential exhibit or collection pieces that they have no "purpose" or obvious need for. The B&O museum is but one member of a very long list. Need I point to Steamtown USA which doesn't have even ONE operable steam engine on the property?

Some museums have equipment donated to them or left to them as part of an estate and even though they haven't the means, inclination or both to preserve it doesn't mean they won't take it.

It is a tender and as far as I know was never destin for the museum. A few years ago and I mean about 5 the WM Senic did air work on it to move it Cumberland. It has a pulled drawhead on one end and CSX would not move it as I believe it also has friction bearings. Also no ethanol plants in or around or served by L\Point yard
