Eastern Railroad Discussion > Hyattsville Sunday 8 trains in 2 hoursDate: 10/19/14 20:54 Hyattsville Sunday 8 trains in 2 hours Author: GP35 Thought to share some Washington, D.C. area CSX action at the Hyattsville, Maryland wye from this beautiful but chilly Sunday late morning. While Hyattsville is no Fostoria, Ohio hotspot it can get busy at times and then nothing at all for a couple of hours. This was the case today. It was busy for a couple of hours from about 10:20 am til 12:25 pm. Then the action dropped off. I had to do errands and other stuff at home so I went home at 1:00 pm after hearing nothing more on the scanner. I did hear a Q410 and Q438 on the RF&P line in Virginia as I was driving home but those would be a while until they reached the Hyattsville wye in the afternoon.
No new photo angles just the usual stuff but I thought some of you in the audience would enjoy viewing these pics from the D.C. area this Sunday late morning. Please enjoy, Gilbert. First two are of eastbound intermodal L138-16 led by CSX 5232 and 169 on track 2 at 10:20 am. This train would stop at Riverdale interlocking for about 45 minutes to allow Q034-18 and L031-19 intermodal trains to come off the Alexandria Extension. Bottom pic is eastbound intermodal Q034-18 led by CSX 834, 7902, and 7920 coming up the east leg of the wye at 10:36 am. Lighting is harsh for eastbounders here in the morning hours. Lighting is better in the late afternoon with some decent side lighting. Next two are of westbound Q400-18 led by CSX 3049, 5472, 395, 8156, and 7761 coming up the west leg of the wye at 11:27 am. This train was running on short time and the crew felt they should make it as far as Dickerson station on the Met. Sub. to be relieved and recrewed.
