Eastern Railroad Discussion > HLCX 6313 on Q216-09. Possibly the last "Barney" HLCXDate: 11/10/14 08:53 HLCX 6313 on Q216-09. Possibly the last "Barney" HLCX Author: santoro2020 I have word HLCX 6313 is on Q216 and has departed Walbridge this morning. Is anybody out there to report this? This unit is painted in the rare "Barney" paint scheme and as far as I've researched it is the last of its kind that isn't stored or scrapped. Thanks in advance!

I wasn't told if it was leading or not and to hear that it isn't bugs me, but regardless it'll be cool to see. Thank you. Nick Date: 11/10/14 09:49 Re: HLCX 6313 on Q216-09. Possibly the last "Barney" HL Author: jdrtrainwatcher The HLCX 6313 is still in the old "Maroon & Blue" paint, which was HLCXs original corporate paint scheme, instead of the solid navy blue that they use now. This scheme has a solid maroon nose, with a solid blue cab, the blue paint stats down the long hood, but tapers off and ends before the dynamic brake fans, the rest of the long hood is solid maroon. I too have never heard this scheme referred to as the "Barney" scheme, and that doesn't really make sense, seeing as how the engine is maroon & blue, not purple & green. That's a bit misleading.

He is correct and I don't know why its called that either. That's what I've been told it is was called multiple times so I just say that rather than "maroon and blue." Nick Date: 11/10/14 15:17 Re: HLCX 6313 on Q216-09 Author: toledopatch I don't know who told you that's the "Barney" scheme, but just because someone thought that might be a fun nickname for it doesn't make it widely known - or accepted.
Just out of curiosity, I ran a 'search' using "Barney" and "HLCX" as keywords, and this thread is the first on Trainorders history in which both items have appeared. Without any green or bright purple, it certainly doesn't evoke a particular children's-show dinosaur to me, either. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 11/10/14 15:39 by toledopatch. Huh, okay, that's interesting. I've heard it from multiple sources and that's what I *grewup* on. I didn't make this post to talk about the paint scheme. Nick Edited 1 time(s). And back in the 90's on the I&O (or it could have been a different Helm unit, don't remember), that unit was called Barney. Never knew why (never thought of the purple dinosaur), just figured it was another nickname a specific engine got for what ever reason (my favorite engine nickname was The War Wagon) Edited 1 time(s).
