Rebuilt Geeps?
Author: cdub

I don't have a clue on any of these units. But, I was curious about the two geeps that appear to have been rebuilt/refurbished back in the 70's (from the Paducah-esque features). When were these two units retired? Did they last into the 90s?

Conrail GP18m 7498 was chopnosed by ICG Paducah. It did not make it into the 90s. I photographed it at Altoona on 5/11/85 as they were preparing to remove the nose for another unit. I can see sister GP18 #7496 behind it. JCB

Where in the Shot do you see the #7496??? I see #4105 an ex-CNJ GP40P and an ex-CNJ RS-3.

Great shots Andy! I wish I could have seen CR when it was an interesting railroad power-wise. Its a shame they became the most boring in terms of a roster by the end.

Isn't #3 a C30-7A?

Maybe I was not as clear on the 7496. When I photographed it in 1985 the 7496 was coupled to the 7498. JCB

No, that number was later assigned to a C30-7A,
but it was originally a U33C. The U series doesn't
have the hood step ahead of the radiator section
like a -7 has.
