Active semaphores - any left?
Author: wzd

Are there still any active main line semaphores in the US?

Or branch line semaphores?

(I've also posted this question on the Western board).

Except for the ones in New Mexico you were told about in the Western thread, and "fixed" semaphores (A or D boards), the answer is No.

There are still semaphores on an out-of-service portion of CSX's former Monon in southern Indiana, but in the years since that track was idled, the power and control wires have been heavily vandalized so they are unlikely to return to service even if the railroad does.

Thieves have also made of with a goodly number of the blades too.
