Bessemer & Lake Erie - Erie Branch move
Author: NKP715

The Bessemer made one of its infrequent runs
on the Erie Branch, today, to work the Emsco
plant in Girard, PA.

Photo is of train returning to CE Junction, Albion,
with the 902. Location is Cole Spring Road,
near milepost E5.

Nice catch. I have not been fortunate to see anything on this branch so far.

Nice. I wish there was more traffic up there. Looks like some interesting potential shots. Do you have any pics of the bridge a couple miles south of Girard? Looks like a big one, but I haven't ever made it back in there (looks like a long walk)

Responding to P'Mike's question, here's several views of
the trestle over Elk Creek on the B&LE Erie Branch.

As he mentioned, this location is not easily accessible,
located about 2 miles south of Girard, PA, and about a
mile from nearest grade crossings.

These shots were taken in 1963, only time I ever was there.
First is a view looking east along Elk Creek. Second
shows a northbound train, while the third shows a
southbound. Back then, there was a regular run to
Wallace, which made getting a train fairly easy.

Reportedly, the bridge has some structural problems,
but it's still open to traffic. Think there's a speed
restriction on it.

Neat shots! Thanks so much for sharing. I've only ever caught one turn on the branch, and it was totally unplanned. I didn't have time to do any scouting. Hopefully someday I can walk in and see what the trestle looks like nowadays.
