NJ - oil to the Buckeye Perth Amboy terminal
Author: Lackawanna484

The Bergen Record newspaper has another article about the growing interest in Canadian oil traveling into NJ by train and barge. Reporter Scott Fallon does a well researched job of documenting the flows of product into the state, and the continuing resistance by the Christie administration in providing info to local authorities. The issue is further complicated by the expectation that Canadian heavy crude (aka tar sands oil) will be shipped.

The facility in question is on the Chemical Coast / Garden State secondary track of Conrail Shared Assets. It's just down the street from Motiva, and near the Kinder Morgan transfer. Chevron once owned the Kill-side property, which will transfer some oil to and from barges.

Unlike adjacent New York state, NJ has allowed a general blanket of silence to cover most oil and ethanol transfers. This has prompted protests from some firefighter groups, and from the Riverkeeper group.

same area where the coal dumper was which was south of the bridge ... the Buckeye facility would be north of the bridge ... they wouldnt use the existing lead with a tight curve off the coast line ... the new lead would be built about 1/2 - 3/4 mile north of the exiting lead
