SD-40's would have been too late. Had the L&NE remained in business, they probably would have had to get new power by 1964-1965. They were loyal Alco buyers so perhaps it would have been C420's. Or they might have watched the NYS&W and gone with GP20's. I don't think they would have gone with 3 axle power.

That would have been an interesting sight! I agree, L&NE would not have gotten SD40s. Maybe C420s, but that's stretching it even.
