Signal Sunday (Milwaukee Road at Bedford, Ind.)
Author: SDP40F600

I've been undertaking a project of scanning some of my color print negatives to digitize them. I ran across this photo taken in July 1992 in Bedford, Ind.

The Milwaukee Road once owned a line that extended from Chicago Heights, Ill., to Westport, Ind. In Bedford, the Milwaukee crossed the Monon at grade just north of the Monon passenger depot. This dwarf signal stood just west of the diamond and governed the movement of eastward trains across it.

As you can see from the photo, the signal has taken a beating over the years.

Thank you for posting this. See below, but I went out to get the Latta Sub before CP Rail gave it to Indiana Railroad. Bedford is certainly a used to was. It is one of those places that you add to the list to visit with the Wayback Machine on the first visit. When my friend and I visited we could even see where a train had used the industrial trackage east of the Monon diamond perhaps as recently as the day before. It is so upsetting that there is nothing (railway related) happening in Bedford now.

I never found it in three visits to Bedford 2005-2006 so I would guess it was gone by 2005.
