Today's snowy 19R
Author: j-miller

Unfortunately I worked today and missed the Illinois Terminal but did catch this NS 19R today in the snow using my camera phone on my way home from work. I thought it turned out pretty good.

For a camera phone shot, that ain't bad at all. Lot's of pretty good camera phone photos these days. I've posted a few. Sometimes you just got'a do what you just got'a do and you do it with whatever is handy. Those do such a good job these days for point-n-shoot situation. There's no optical zoom and you can't tweak the exposure but a lot of people don't know how to do that anyway.

Word of advice. Don't tell us it's a camera phone in the future and we won't know the difference.

Looking at this image sends a shiver down my spine, very nice! What is the location, somewhere along the Port Road?

Yep next time I won't tell a soul what camera I used.

I think it's a great shot that really captures how it felt today in PA.

I agree. Without being told this was shot with a camera phone, I wouldn't have noticed. Certainly sharp enough for a Web site. Nicely done.

(On the flip side, other folks need to give up the camera-quality based excuses for blurry or badly exposed garbage. The result is what matters, not what was used to produce it.)

AGREED...!!! I was unable to get out today in the snow. However, I did notice how the snow layed on everything.

I disagree. The phone produced a picture lacking in contrast. The snow is grey, not white. Same with the markings on the locomotives. The locomotives are not really black. Additionally the photo is not sharp.

I think a railfan should always have a good camera available. My camera lives in my car.

Here is what I mean in my previous comment. John's phone shot to the left and some fixing up to the right.

Thanks Marty for your effort. If I have anything to say, I like my original pic(the one I have on my computer)and NOT the one I uploaded to the website. It doesn't have the quality or sharpness of the original.....if you know what I mean. I have noticed that on other picture's I upload as well....they look nice but not like the original's on my computer.

If you are uploading at more than 1000 pixels wide, T.O. will reduce the picture to 1000 pixels wide. This causes some reduction of clarity of the picture. Much better for you to reduce it and sharpen it a little before posting.
