A couple days we did some US Sugar Corp chasing out of Clewiston.

311 at Gramlin fixing to head back to the plant with loads.

Second try was a little better. GP40 hustling 79 loads to the plant near Cardwell.

Nice, #6,7 & 8 are fantastic. Nice how you caught that bird off the nose of 501 in photo #6.

How does one find out about what's running on US Sugar? Is it pretty much a matter of following the tracks until you find a train?

Yup. December through March they are really busy. They run 24/7 as the sugar is perishable.
Run 4 ways out of Clewiston. There are two wyes on the east side of town. Hang out there to start the day. Everything runs through here. North shops next to the road in town. Big shop and all the working SWs they have inaccessible in the plant. Road power cuts off and grabs more empties to take out again. Most the loads come in with the power nose first. Empties long hood first.

Pretty much by my experience. I never heard much/any radio chatter down there either, but I'm suspicous I may not have had the right radio freq. In any case, I didn't need it as you just have to look around till you find something. During my 2 visits there did seem to be a pattern. Here's my trip report from last year:

One thing of note, the trains move surprisingly fast...even on the branch lines they were making close to 40 mph.

Like everyone else said drove around for them. The other big clue is to look for where the sugar cane fields are being burned off. My dad and I tried it out last year http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,3338904,3338904#msg-3338904 A day very well spent, at least the sugar cane train part was. the road train to Sebring was there around lunchtime and the road train from FEC was returning around 3 pm to give an idea of when those ran.

Have Fun!

Jim
