PRR Signal Bridges in Chicago
Author: 1976

I am aware of the one at Racine Ave but I recall another nearby on Metra as well. What is the location of the other?

There's a very wide signal bridge at the east end of Tower A-2 that has both C&NW and PRR signals on it.

Western Avenue which is also the name of the Metra station at this location for the Milwaukee West and North lines.

They are not really in a public access area like Racine. They are east of the Western Avenue Metra Station, look at Metra site to find location.

On the south side of the tracks there are some industries and roads but you are in questionable area as far as public access.
They are at a very busy junction so you can't go wandering around unless you are Metra employee.
(Hint: You may find some photos posted.)

It's just beyond the state line but there's still a PRR bridge in operation just east of the Hammond-Whiting Amtrak station. However, it will probably be dismantled within the next few months as part of the Indiana Gateway project for upgrading the NS Chicago Line

It was, I suppose, inevitable, but it's sad that the venerable PRR bridge will be gone soon. I don't know how long it's been there, but I am fairly sure that it's been around at least since I was a kid back in the '50s. I just drove by there this morning.

I noticed that the rail for the third track has been dropped, and there is also a pile of ties. I wonder if they will wait for a thaw or will they just go ahead with the project now. It will also involve relocating a signal east of 117th Street in Whiting.

If I recall correctly Mr. aussiehinz has posted many exceptional photos from that area including several of that signal bridge.
