FYI Railroad Accident/Incident Notification And Initial Investigation Report SYNOPSIS March 2, 2015, at 1056 hrs, the George County, Mississippi Sheriff's Office in Lucedale, Mississippi received a report of a Railroad Crane derailment near Agricola Latonia Rd with Injuries. George County District 1 first responders from Rock Creek, Bexley, and Pittman Volunteer Fire Departments responded. ASAP ambulance service responded. According to CN Bridge supervisor, the CN bridge crew of 8 (6 CN employees, 2 contract employees) were moving a 60 ton crane with a 26 foot concrete girder northbound on to the south end of the bridge. Approximately 60 feet on the bridge, the girder was moved and the "old pilings" collasped under the bridge causing the CN bridge crane (CN 50300) to fall through the bridge. The crane had 1 operator. 4 employees were injured. The bridge is on the CN Beaumont Subdivision at MP 28.4. The maximum authorized speed for trains is 49 mph. The railroad is dark territory. This is not an Amtrak route. The inury list is as follows: Employee #1 (3 amputated fingers) Employee #2 (broke finger) Employee #3 (injured hip) Employee #4 (piece of steel in finger) The employees were working under "Planned Work" for protection. Employee #1 was transported by ASAP ambulance service at 1154 hrs to Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. The remaining three injuries were also treated at Providence but were not taken by ambulance. Hulcher is enroute at this time and the CN Railroad Police are assisting with traffic control. |
