We spotted a 14 unit light engine movement on CSX in Louisville. The train was northbound on #2 Track in Lyndon. For local fans, it was setting just south of the signals. I was driving on LaGrange Road looking out for potholes (some are big enough to seriously damage a car) and my wife was counting engines. There were four CSX units and the 10 NS units. I do not know if these were the NS units involved in the trade.
On the way home from dinner, we saw the northbound container train waiting on #2 Track in Lyndon. This train had two EMDs. Usually, it has two GEs. A little further, we saw a southbound auto train on #1 Track just east of Whipps Mill Rd with two GEs. Further, at Anchorage, we saw a southbound from the Ford truck plant waiting on #1 Track. This train had an EMD (lead) and a GE. Finally we saw a train waiting to pull south out of the Ford truck plant with two EMDs. Was quite an evening. The four CSX units were together in the front of the consist, and the ten NS units were together in the back of the consist. Unable to record any numbers. I've never seen that much going on.

There are of course many gaps among the 8000-8488 group of SD40-2,s following retirements or conversions or the low 8900's are vacant. At least they havent got quite the pressure on number space that BNSF and UP currently have. I sometimes feel like giving up keeping track of the constant renumbering on those roads.

They haven't decided yet but supposedly they have three different choices, start with 8889, start with 8890, or start with 8900. |
