Weekend Short Line Ops, PA/NJ/DE area?
Author: bigjim4life

It seems to me that a lot of short lines (minus the Delaware Lackawanna that I know of) have most of their freight operations during the weekdays, but seemingly none on weekends.  Are there any in the eastern/central PA area, NJ or DE that do freight operations seven days per week, or at least on weekends as well?  I imagine some places do "as needed" operations, but I'm inquiring about more "regularly scheduled" ops on weekends.  Thanks in advance!

Reading & Northern has several weekend jobs.  North Shore has one or two also.

I think Delaware-Lackawanna is currently running its Portland Turn out of Scranton on Saturdays (as well as Tue-Thu). Don't know what else they might run on the weekend.

I also believe SMS Rail Services at the Pureland Industrial Park in southern NJ runs at least one day on many weekends. You'll definitely want to check in at their office if you pay them a visit, and it might be wise to call ahead to confirm weekend ops.

Further west in PA, RJ Corman PA lines run on weekends, although their ops are pretty irregular even during the week. BPRR, AVR, SWP, URR, W&LE all run regular weekend ops.
