Runaway units?
Author: punxyspatcher

This greeted me this morning from our M-W dept. Obvious names and locations blurred out for obvious reasons. Enjoy!

'Spatcher out....

ROFL!
Sure that isn't a new technology to avoid building any expensive trestles when you can just ramp the valley?

The CP had 4 of 'em on their original 4.5% grade down the west slope of kicking horse pass.

Colorado Midland also had one.

There may have been more.

Worst job of doctoring a photo I've seen in a long time.

Yeah.. it might not be a great job of doctoring a photo, but it's still funny!

LMAO Terrible doctoring job. Absolutely terrible. Looks like something I'm capable of. But it's hilarious. Somebody do this on Company time? Huh?

And EN, last time I checked, the post said "Runaway Units", not "Doctored Photo". That's what caught me before I clicked on it. How bout YOU?

Saluda Grade on the NS near the North/South
Carolina border had two and still has one.
Unfortunately, it also presently has no trains...

Nashville, Chattanooga and St.Louis Railway had a runaway track at the south end of the Cumberland Mountain tunnel below Cowan, Tennessee. Last uses involved two runaway ballast trains in 1953 if I remember correctly. On the first train, the Dixie class 4-8-4 was wrecked when it went off the end of the track. The second train ran away only a week after the first but was stopped short of the end of track.

Roads up in Vermont and other places in the NE have runaway ramps for tractor trailers, that gravel area looks just like them. Wouldn't you hate to live in that house?

Just curious to know if anyone here has had the misfortune to use one
