Norfolk Southern still uses camp trains.  Here's one a couple of years ago in Spencer, NC on December 8, 2012.

there's a regional traveling tie gang based here in Woodbury,NJ ... the camp cars travel in the same train as the work equipment ... they pack and setup up things like a puzzle by numbers ... they were here a month ago ... the ground was frozen so they packed up and went to Reading( did they really expect it not to be frozem there too) and setup and packed up again and went to West Virginia ... now the tie gang is back in south jersey again ... that's 3 camp car moves that i know of in 4 weeks ...

outdoor plumbing and no basements, impressive!!

NS's shanty towns on wheels. I feel sorry for the MOW people who have to live in those nasty filthy things.  Unsure why, other than just plain ole cheap, NS can't seem to furnish a hotel room for their most valued asset, their (MOW) employees, like all the other class one RRS manage to do.
