Eastern Railroad Discussion > Canadian National Flare (Kind of) for FridayDate: 04/10/15 20:55 Canadian National Flare (Kind of) for Friday Author: WrongMain A couple of years ago, the CN converted two of its SD40-2W's to run on LNG. The selected units were the 5258 and the 5261. Among the adaptations made on the units was adding SD45 like flares to the radiators. The test lasted for a year, but the "flares" stayed. Here's the 5258 leading a westbound through Dyer, IN tonight, Friday. It was a nice surprise on a nice evening.

Not entirely correct. It can operate in reverse, long hood forward, but it is restricted to 20 MPH over any public crossings. Ron |
