Eastern Railroad Discussion > Road Closed...Doesn't matterDate: 04/17/15 02:50 Road Closed...Doesn't matter Author: howeld Man in a pickup gets hit by train after driving around Road Closed signs and then around down crossing gates.
The crossing was closed because CSX is replacing rail and ties on the Toledo Sub near Piqua and Troy, Ohio. Story doesn't say if the roadway was still in place at the crossing. http://m.whio.com/news/news/local/careflight-called-to-car-train-crash-in-piqua/nkwyz/ Posted from iPhone Date: 04/17/15 03:35 Re: Road Closed...Doesn't matter Author: ClubCar Another bonehead in our lives. In today's world, nothing surprises me anymore. Stupid people are everywhere!!!!!

Old Grandad.... perhaps Mad Dog 20/20 activated crossing protection is not a judgement decision ... if the USDOT-FRA-NTSB were serious they'd make it mandatory that every licensed driver attend a 8 hr RR crossing seminar/class that show the effects of post rail accidents including videos of the aftermaths as well as interviews with the injured survivors of such incidents and also the surviving relatives ... Of course, equally good ideas like requiring drivers to retake their driver license tests fter they are convicted of serious accidents routinely go down in flames. In some states you can't even require a medical exam for a 90 year old who has a MV accident... Date: 04/17/15 15:48 Re: Road Closed...Doesn't matter Author: garr A few years ago CSX closed a frequently used side road grade crossing in Acworth, GA. The pavement had been removed and tracks looked like normal ballasted ROW. Around a month after the crossing removal a train hit an automobile stuck on the tracks attempting to drive across the nonexistent crossing. Yes, it was after midnight-as my mom said, not much good happens after midnight.
Jay Posted from Android Date: 04/18/15 13:59 Re: Road Closed...Doesn't matter Author: tp117 Come on....you can't make people attend an 8 hour class on the dangers of railroad crossings. Especially if they work for a living. Hell, I'm retired and I won't go! Conrail produced about a 15 minute or less video that shows all the risks and stupidity in that time frame, not 8 hours. I had it and think I gave the copy I found in CR's trash at the end to the CRHS. When folks do stupid stuff at RR crossings just chalk it up to 'natural selection'. Be interesting to know how those folks vote, or, er, voted in elections!
