Fatality on CSX in Louisville, Ky. but slightly different
Author: wa4umr

An RJCorman train on the CSX thought the Louisville area hit and killed a 26 year old man on Wednesday.  There was some confusing reports on the local news (imagine that) about which way the train was going.  The train was going west/south through St Mathews.  The victim was an employee of a car wash that was adjacent to the tracks.  It's reported that the employees would often pick up trash around the business when business was slow.  The car wash itself is probably 20 feet from the tracks and it's reported that the victim was picking up trash on the side of the building next to the tracks.  The crossing is in a no horn zone but witnesses say the engineer was blowing the horn.

It's always a shame when someone is killed on the rails but even worse when someone is trying to do something decent, such as cleaning up the litter that others have thrown out as they drove through the neighborhood.  Still, there's no excuse for trespassing.  There's no report about whether he had on a headset or ear buds or why he didn't hear the train.

damn shame that a misjudgement as such he made cost him his life ... sounds like a decent guy ... i believe he didn't think of himself as trespassing ... there are a lot businesses who's properties back right up against the railroad ... there's a diner near me that is so close to the railroad that an extended van or truck when backed up to the concrete parking tire stop will foul the track ... about a month ago a memorial stone work truck that had a lift beam hanging off the back stretched all the way across to the other rail on the track ... i normally would've went into the diner looking for the guy to earn him his truck is going to get hit but a Conrail pilot was about a mile away who had the single track out of service for overhead electric high voltage transmission pole replacement ... i went over and told Pat the CR pilot ... he looked down the track and turned bleach white when he saw the beam hanging over the track ... he went down and had the guy move his truck ...
