Its that time of year again and John Shuniak is planning out the details for the 2015 Cassandra All Nighter.

Where?

The Cassandra Iron Bridge Railroad Overlook at NS Pittsburgh Line MP255 Cassandra, PA.

When?

Saturday evening Aug 1st into Sunday morning Aug 2nd 2015

Attendees can arrive and depart anytime they wish up until lights out which is usually around 2-230AM.

What is it?

John Shuniak, owner of the Cassandra Overlook Motel and Giftshop hosts this event annually on the first weekend of August. He rents a pair of crank up mast high intensity lighting units of the type typically used for night road construction and lights up the Iron Bridge including the picnic area and railroad.

This offers opportunities for night photography and also offers a venue for a railfan social event where railfans can meet and greet and put faces to names from various internet forums.

Attendees are welcome to bring coolers with food and non-alcoholic beverages, portable grills, folding chairs, canopies, and a light jacket or sweatshirt is recommended to bring along in case it turns cool overnight.

The All Nighter will run rain or shine.

No provision for on site trash disposal will be provided so attendees should take their own trash back out with them.

A small donation will be requested at the event to help offset costs related to the lighting set up.

The past couple of All Nighters have also seen an increasing number of railfans pitching tents and staying the night.

When John shuts out the lights, the campers stay the rest of the night. Last year, 5 tents were pitched. One fellow did a 24 hour train log at Cassandra.
