Eastern Railroad Discussion > Florida East Coast in Virginia whaaaaa?!?

After nearly a month stuck in Rock Runner duty in the southeastern portion of the state, these 2 units decided to venture north to the RF&P and beyond. They were stuck on Q416-28 in Rocky Mount, behind CSX SD40-2 #8873 (Ex CR/PC/PRR) and ES44AH #835. Once in Richmond, they realized the 8873 has no cab signals, which are required for the RF&P. So, rather than do the obvious and remove the 8873 and let 835 lead, the added yet another awesome unit to lead, Ex Conrail GP40-2 #4408! Needless to say, this was by far the best catch for myself in the month of June. Pictured along with the 416 are a few other trains I caught while out for 2 and a half hours earlier. Was a rather nice time as well, with 13 trains, and more freight than Amtrak, which is unusual for this line at this time of day! #1: First train of interest was W046-24, which was a loaded 'critter' train, with a few gondolas and boxcars on the rear. 
#2: Next was P091-28 with #6 and Phase IV heritage #184 2nd out. 
#3: Q438-27 was the first NB of the day, with a quartet of CSX locomotives.

#4: The Sunday only intermodal Q176 was next in line, with a SD70AC duo leading the way. 
#5: And L740-27 with no shortage of a decent lashup, with a SD60M and AC6000CW combo
#6: Last Train before our Q416 was P053-28, the "Auto Train" heading south.

I saw the earlier head's up, nice catch Joe.  Thanks for posting photos!  Those units will look a little out of place in Cumberland.

I had to look twice at the date you took these, as I saw the twin to your first
shot in Hamlet, NC today. Course it came through as I was moving between 
locations and I didn't get a shot of it. All fantastic shots, very nice work!
