Eastern Railroad Discussion > Running "Hammer head"Date: 08/28/15 14:06 Running "Hammer head" Author: FEC2000 I caught the ABC Kent crew switching around Kent, OH today, they delivered a stone train to Shelly Materials, then switched the grain mill in town and finally Crawley Tar. When they left town, the Wheeling's 6981 would lead long hood forward with its SD45 car body. ABC often uses the Wheeling's power on heavy trains out of Akron.
1. Switching cars at Kent before heading south 2. Departing Kent, OH on the exErie Lackawanna main 3. On the Wheeling's Cleveland Line Howe Rd Brimfield, OH Date: 08/28/15 14:09 Re: Running "Hammer head" Author: FEC2000 Date: 08/28/15 14:50 Re: Running "Hammer head" Author: IC1026 Very nice.

John Date: 08/29/15 10:52 Re: Running "Hammer head" Author: ironmtn Naw, that's just "flare first". Interesting to be sure, and evocative of days of old -- remember all of those Southern units particularly that used run long hood leading? Now if it were a GE with a wide radiator "hammerhead" like the recent models (the ones on the new Tier 4-compliant models are immense), and were leading, then that's really "running hammerhead".
