Get Em' While You Can

The last batch of CSX "Hornet" SD40-2's left Columbus, Ohio this morning on X311 to Avon and eventually Boise, Idaho for rebuild. Here they are seen passing Moler Street. This is the only time these will move around in this paint scheme

I wonder how much it cost them to apply the lettering to those engines, only to have them never enter service before this rebuilding.

The mismatched numbering on the 8900/3425 is a cute touch.

Last I knew they were waiting on the emission test/papers, wonder if something fell through where they weren't able to get approved and decided to send them out to get rebuilt instead.

Yes. The other ones left Huntington last Friday.

I am wondering - why paint 'em at all? (why the
large CSX patch)??
