Herzog's MPM unloading rail @ Landsdown Jct.
Author: Pattenburg

Stopped by the Landsdown Road grade crossing near Clinton, NJ on Tuesday morning and observed Herzog's Multi-Purpose Machine (MPM) unloading rail along NS's Lehigh Line near MP 57 while parked on the siding. In the background can be seen Herzog 202 which started its railroad life back in October, 1971 as B&O 4031.

Have no idea as to what that rail is being used for.

Picture of the area from Google Maps (https://www.google.com/maps/@40.6072522,-74.9149942,170m/data=!3m1!1e3) shows evidemce of a second siding being there at one time.

It is old welded rail that Herzog has been out cutting up and picking up.  From the looks of it, they are moving it to locations where it can be loaded onto a flatbed trailer for transport.  They were doing that a couple days ago in Reading, and this looks like it is the same process.  There are quite a few locations where rail was replaced, and the old rail sat for some time.  NS probably contracts with Herzog to come take care of it all at once, and then ship it out in bulk to wherever/whoever it is going to.
