Eastern Railroad Discussion > C&O/B&O/CSX GP9'sDate: 04/02/03 07:39 C&O/B&O/CSX GP9's Author: BentnoseWillie Does anyone have photos of C&O/B&O/CSX 5900-series GP9\'s that clearly show the flat wire-screen spark arrestors that some of these had?
I know these were present by times, but my closeup roof shots are from periods when they were removed. They appear to have been a now-you-see-me-now-you-don\'t detail. Shazbot! Grateful for any help I can get, I remain: B-Dubya Date: 04/02/03 11:31 Re: C&O/B&O/CSX GP9's Author: CRmac80 Is this the type you are looking for boss?If so,let me know and I\'ll post a few shots of units with them, and details if possible.
RAD Both shots from March 1978,Toledo,Ohio. Close in on C&O 5907 C&O 6186,5859,5907,and a B&O GP-40.5859&5907 have them,6186 does not? Date: 04/02/03 14:09 Re: C&O/B&O/CSX GP9's Author: bentnosewillie Exactamundo!
Thumbing up and waiting eagerly, I remain: B-Dubya Date: 04/02/03 15:06 Re: C&O/B&O/CSX GP9's Author: csx2112 BW,
For the B&O/C&O/Chessie days, you can check my Chessie photo site at: http://www.trainweb.org/chessiephotos I have most of the 5900s accounted for there. As for the few GP9s that made it to CSX, you can find them at: http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos Dean Date: 04/02/03 15:19 Re: C&O/B&O/CSX GP9's Author: bentnosewillie Cool! I can see the infernal things better in these photos!
This is what I get for modelling shortlines... Grateful as always to have such resources on tap, I remain: B-Dubya Date: 04/02/03 15:47 Re: C&O/B&O/CSX GP9's Author: CRmac80 Here are a couple more.Hope this helps you out.
6187 and B&O 6559 at Walbridge(Toledo),Ohio April 1978. 6221,same location,May 1977. 5891,Akron,Ohio April 1981.Note "R" on cab,and "toilet drain" lettering on ahead of battery box covers. Plus a close shot, best I could do with a section of a down on shot: http://www.trainorders.com/media/image/show.php?id=4601 Now my turn for a question-what did the "R" stand for on the 5891 and 6221?It\'s just below and ahead of the cab number. Also, from a quick look through the "B&O side" of my slides,it seems that only the ex C&O\'s(a Chessie System transfer?)have this feature. RAD Date: 04/02/03 21:05 Re: "R" on cab sides Author: csx2112 If I remember correctly, this was on units with removeable limiting blocks for the trucks allowing the unit to operate on extra tight curves. I\'m not sure of the technical terms involved, but I believe that\'s what I heard. I know this was needed for some trackage around Baltimore, and I\'m sure in other places as well.
