observations at Folkston
Author: ctillnc

Just back from nine hours of trainwatching (split between dawn and dusk Saturday) at Folkston. Must be the first time I've spent any significant time in Folkston without seeing either a coal train or a non-CSX locomotive. I guess with a slowing economy and the dropoff in coal, CSX has all the locomotives it needs.

I remember somebody did a report of the 24 hr railwatch a few years back, and surprisingly there was no foreign power. I have been there three times, "camping " overnight in my car, and seen all kinds of foreign power including Canadian and former BNSF leased "Oakway" units. Last visit in 2014 saw a manifest from New orleans arrive with seven UP units. Your observations must reflect the slowdown.
