Just heard a report from my dad that the 611 was just set off in Reading yard.
Also, he said the 15J with the NS 8099 leading is holding at Bowers.

If the 611 somehow is routed up to  Slateford, there's a very interesting L&NE relic on the way.  Just north of the footbridge in Portland PA is a concrete piling, which was once a support for the L&NE bridge over the Delaware. This time of the year, with leaves off the trees, it is quite visible.

It would be nice to pose the unit alongside the piling for a moment, in the morning light.

I understand the plan is to restore the unit to LNE black and white and a big red fried egg logo!

if it's going to the A&A in Topton, why would it be in Slateford? Any speculation if it will go on local or a special move and when?

It will not be routed to Slateford.  The Alco S2 is the only surviving Lehigh and New England locomotive.  It has been purchased by the Allentown and Auburn Railroad group and it is on it's way to Topton, PA for restoration where it will be painted in it's original Lehigh and New England paint scheme.  Topton is on the NS Reading Line between Reading and Allentown, PA.

It "WILL"? Are you saying it WILL be painted in EL colors or do you mean that it WOULD look good in EL colors instead of what it WILL be restored to?

Thanks for that additional info, it's very helpful.

The original post didn't have destination info, so a final destination of the D-L alco doctors wasn't too unreasonable.

I didn't think the A&A bought it.  I thought the local railroad historical society made the purchase as the donations made were supposedly tax deductible.  But the A&A is giving it a home and place to stretch its legs.

IT's the Friends of the LNE 611. It will be painted LNE Black/white.  it's being given space at the A&A since that's *close* to where it used to work.
