Eastern Railroad Discussion > Moving Things Along: CSX & Amtk 280, Rome, NY, This MorningDate: 05/21/16 18:22 Moving Things Along: CSX & Amtk 280, Rome, NY, This Morning Author: ut-1 CSX is doing major trackwork in and around Rome, NY. I'm told by a friend who works as a CSX dispatcher that a bottleneck can develop on account of this work.
I decided to head out to Reber Road, Rome, this morning to catch Amtrak 280 (due into Utica at 07:31) going past CSX CP 248. There are new signals here and a crossover. Instead of simply watching 280 speed by, I observed an amazing display of mainline railroading. Upon my arrival at 7am, a mixed freight (sorry, don't know the train symbol for this train or the other two freights that came by) was stopped on the main approx 1/3rd mile east of the crossing. A short time later, Amtrak 280 came along and held west of the crossover. Next along came another freight. It passed the stationary freight then crossed over just past CP 248. The stationary freight then powered up & passed the still-holding 280. Once that freight passed, another westbound freight arrived on the scene which then met the now-moving passenger train just east of Reber Road. Here are some pictures: 1. 07:04 a CSX freight stopped on the main east of Reber Road. 2. 07:30 Amtrak 280 arrives & holds just west of the crossover at CP 248. 3. 07:37 CSX intermodal passes the stopped freight. CSX needs to keep spending money on rail and surfacing.
Also, we see in these photos another new tri-light signal that's offset and tilting. Bad manufacturing. These things seem so cheaply made compared to other signal types. |
