I think you meaan Ball Signals. Very much used in New England. Photo is of ball signal at Whitefeild NH.

You will want to ask the model railroad community about diagrams. There was an article a few years ago in Model Railroader about building them the multiple views and diagrams.

They WERE popular in New England, but the one at Whitefield was the last one in service and I don't think any of the rail lines there are active any more.
