ALCO HH660 Spotted at EJ&E Yard
Author: Phil

As viewed from an eb CSX train this morning, Relco ALCO HH660 #601 has been spotted at EJ&Es Kirk yard. Its sitting next to the hump and will be best viewed in the afternoon. Does anybody know the history of this particular ALCO loco?

It is a former Milwaukee Road unit, built in 1939. For the past 20 or so years it has worked at a grain elevator in Troy, Ohio. They recently acquired a new track mobile, so 601 is being returned to Relco. I believe Trains Magazine did a feature on the 601 in the same issue they highlighted the restoration on Milwaukee 261. They commented on how the 601 was several years older than 261.

How long will this possibly stay where it is? I will be in the area Sunday, and would like to get some pics.

You would be ill advised to attempt shooting anything at Kirk Yard. EJ&E is highly railfan unfriendly and you won\'t get permission to shoot anything there.

According to my friend who spotted this ALCO, you can get photos of it from public property if you use a zoom or tellephoto lens. You just need to wait untill the afternoon when the sun is behind you.
