Stop, Look & Listen
Author: cr2581

That's exactly what the school bus driver is doing in this scene as a short but speedy CSX Q417 (with CP power) crosses Edgewood Road on the Trenton Line in Lower Makefield Township Buck County, PA.

Enjoy !

Nice shot.   Was the bus at the crossing before the lights went on?  Or did it pull up after the lights had already started?

Also, for the benefit of those that don't live in your neighborhood, where in the heck is this?

The bus arrived before the lights went on and the gates dropped.  Barely visible in the background are the headlights from a SEPTA train stopped in the station at Yardley.  It flew by seconds after the freight train cleared the crossing. Edgewood Road is located near Yardley, PA.

This is the recently triple tracked SEPTA/CSX West Trenton Line. The triple tracking separated the freight line from the double track comutter rail line permitting CSX to dispatch the freightr without using SEPTA's track and dispatcher.

Looks like the ROW was originally triple track reduced to single track then restored to triple track. The SEPTA tracks have new road crossing panels and CSX has new signals.

Yes, once it was triple track, actually I believe 4 tracks. It was never single tracked, always at least two track. SEPTA got the new inbound track with the concrete ties and their old inbound rail is now outbound and CSX has the old outbound. They strung new catenary inbound and it looks like they grounded the old outbound cat. Not sure why they chose to replace only one old crossing and not both old crossings. Both road lanes received the new overhead lights but the old left roadside signal was left as you see it (changed the sign from 2 to 3 tracks), there is no left side signal going the other direction.
