Eastern Railroad Discussion > NS 8505 Still On The GroundDate: 10/22/16 03:37 NS 8505 Still On The Ground Author: NSSpike You may recall that back on July 14 of this year there was a derailment of an NS manifest train north bound on the Alabama Division North AGS District. Believe the train symbol was 163? The accident occurred around CP Wauhatchie just southwest of Chattanooga TN. The derailment resulted from a collision with a 10 wheel truck belonging to of all things...Clean Harbors, one of the largest environmental cleanup firms in the country. I believe two of the three engines where on the ground as where several cars. Recently I heard from a very reliable source that although all repairs to the tracks and signals where completed the NS 8505 D8.5-40CW engine and several cars remain on site as of this week. Some three months later??? Find that interesting in itself. Anyone have an idea why? Also heard that the number boards are missing on the 8505If anyone is out in this area it would be interesting to see some photos from the accident site.In advance, Thanks

Just arrived at Ten Bridge, will be headed over to Wauhatchie in 30 minutes or so. Number boards are missing. It is sitting on the ground on its fuel tank and front truck. Rear truck is 15-20 yards away. There are ~7-8 covered hoppers and a centerbeam flat still onsite. Will post images on Monday, when I get back to the house. Regards Russ Date: 10/22/16 16:32 Re: NS 8505 Still On The Ground Author: Lackawanna484 One of the media reports at the time mentioned "thousands of gallons of diesel fuel" had been spilled. I wonder if that has created a delay?
The Clean Harbors truck was carrying supplies of some sort, I don't think there was any haz-mat in their cargo. Date: 10/22/16 16:35 Re: NS 8505 Still On The Ground Author: NSSpike Russ, thanks for your efforts. Reading the post and making an effort to get by the site and get pics.
I was hoping this being the weekend perhaps someone just might be in the area.
