NS 4002 and NS 4000 NS 55W
Author: dantat13

Hi guys,

Was curious if this 55W is heading towards Illinois again? Heads up is much appreciated! There was a 55W last week with NS CNJ 1071 that went to Homer, IL. I am from Decatur looking to catch this if it comes my way.

Thanks!

IL seems to be a common route for 55W based on past history.

This section is a Winston-Salem, NC - Red Key, IN train. As is common for other sections of 55W, it will travel the Pocahontas, Kenova, Columbus, Sandusky, and Fostoria Districts.

55W trains can go to virtually any elevator; NS seems to use that symbol for outbound trains from Loudon, Tenn., regardless of their destination.

As mentioned these 55W grain trains can go anywhere; I believe they have also ventured to the Wheeling and Lake Erie up at Bellevue. NS will drop the train off then a Wheeling crew will take it to the Sunrise COOP at Clarksfield, Ohio. Toledopatch can probably comment on this too.

I'll trust that Mr. Leffler didn't just make up the part about this particular edition going to Red Key, Indiana.

Although it is interesting to me that the last few 55Ws have originated in Winston-Salem rather than Loudon. In other words, the symbol doesn't seem to indicate, for sure, either the origin or the destination. Go figure.

Loudon trains go out as 55G and 55A. Have been for the last 6-10 years between the two symbols.

Last HU report had it in Roanoke Friday night, did it end up staying for the shutdown or did it get west to Bluefield or Williamson yet?

Merry Christmas all
