No ugly CSX cab here

A CSX SD40-2 idling away at Clymers, IN this evening on the Winamac Southern Railroad. The Andersons ethanol plant makes a nice backdrop.

The new "Legomotive" cabs (I refuse to use the "Spongebob" name; worst nickname ever applied to a locomotive) are awful to look at, yes... But crucially the new rebuilds sound the same, they still have that beautiful turbo 645 sound that we love... They then team this up with a newer-sounding K5LA horn and a digital bell (I honestly like the sound of the digi bells better than the old-school mechanical ones)... And let's not forget the crews probably like them a little better than the tired 40-year-old SD40 cabs, too...

All this is irrelevant, though; superb night shot of a grand old warrior...

Wow ! That's intense !  What a beauty !  And I don't care. Ugly cabs deserve silly names. Sponge Bob Square Cab works for me. Long live unmolested SD40-2s !

Legomotive is too cute for those boxy things, Sponge Bob Square Pants is an insult and is more fitting.

Well deserved IOTD!!!  And I think it's only fitting that these are called SpongeBob SquareCabs as CSX had a dispatcher, now retired, who went by the same name.

I'd never though of setting a plant on fire like that just for night shot lighting--gotta try that with the oil terminal here.
