The Countdown Continues
Author: RDG630

The former Reading Company Venice Island Branch is down to its last two or three weeks of operation. I have been trying to get photos before it closes and got an unexpected bounus this week with an unexpected snowfall. Given it runs about once a week the opportunities have been limited.Today the line is operated by the East Penn Railway (ESPN) and uses former Berhlehem Steel EMD SW900m #52.. THe line serves a paper plant in the Manayunk section of Philsdelphia.
Three images at the plant.

The line follows the former Schuylkill Canal and the crosses the river to interchange with NS at West Falls Yard. Note the murals aloing the trail that follows the river. Could have used a tree filter for the bridge shot.

The journey back to the plant. SEPTA's Norristown Regional Rail Line is above the train in the last image.

So many of these little industrial tracks have already disappeared and more of the few remaing seam to go away every month. Some of your images are quite beautiful, especially number 5 and 7 along the canal.

Sorry to see three more carloads gone from the rail network. Do you know why this line is closing?

Thanks for the background of this shipper.

There's a similar old mill set up in Passaic NJ. Old canals, lightly used tracks, Dundee Canal, and some street running.
