Bridgeport Movable Bridge ... that's what the blue sign says ... Closing ... crew tones up the bridge to close between April and November ... Paulsboro and Chester and now interlocking limits so the CR disp now controls them ...

OK I'll ask the question. How does that bridge
mechanism work? Looks like the rails elevate for
clearance (???) but what raises/lowers them.
Never saw anything like this. Great photo, OOS !

After the big derailment on a swing span on CR in 2012 at Paulsboro, NJ which released vinyl chloride into a river, new rules were drawn up specifying more strict procedures on how to pass a stop signal governing movement over "moveable bridges" (draw bridges, swing bridges, lift bridges, etc). That derailment occurred because a conductor mistakenly thought the bridge was indeed locked into position when it wasn't and a dispatcher ok'd movement past the stop signal. A few cars back in the train a derailment started when the rails moved under the train account rails not being locked into place. Our rules classes after that starting having multiple questions about procedures to follow when encountering a stop signal at a moveable bridge. That sign, obviously, designates this as a moveable bridge.

no problem with the Paulsboro bridge and the disp now ... be controls it and can see if it's locked or not ... here's the new replacement bridge at Paulsboro with CP-Paul interlocming ..

Relay like images #1 & 2 OOS. Looks like you also caught a Canada Goose taking flight in photo #1.
