SD60M Triclops Pair Leads NS 26A-24
Author: NSSpike

A pair of consecutive numbered SD60M units #6814 & #6815 lead NS 26A (VANCE ALA - BRUNSWICK GA) east bound on the Alabama Div East End District just east of Temple Georgia around 12:45pm Wednesday afternoon. No heads up on this rare catch! These are two units of a nine unit SD60M Triclops model series, #6807 through #6815 that NS acquired back in June 2014 and all built for the Burlington Northern back in 1989. The question for me is, does NS plan to make these units LEADER/PTC equipped?

They were not equipped with cab signals so they can't lead on any of the northern lines with this requirement. The 6809 has been living on the L13 between Bellevue and Cleveland, OH the past several weeks. My gut tells me these 27 year old unrebuilt engines with lots of coal miles on them from BN days make these ripe for rebuilding as soon as they run out of standard cab SD60s.
