NS SD80MAC # 7222 is Leading NS 290(17)Solo . Should Be on the Heels of Amtrak 20(17). Saw 290(17) depart Duluth,GA around 10:15PM after Letting Amtrak Bypass it .

Reminds me a little of the classic 1955 David P Morgan story "The Mohawk That Refused to Abdicate". A New York Central 4-8-2 at the end of a proud career, now hauling junk freight in Ohio. Blasting through a junction at full speed, whistle screaming. No intention of going peacefully to the boneyard.

The (Conrail) SD80MAC units had a fine career.

Edited: Thanks for the catch on the 4-8-2, don't know what I was thinking.

I'm guessing when NS does their rebuilds, the 80MAC will have a new number on it

I'm not sure that 7222's career is nearly over. Seems like NS has plans for its future. And the Mohawk was a 4-8-2.
(Sorry for the nitpicking.)

Word I have heard is that there might be a rebuild program similar to the ACU program, however these will keep their numbers.
