CSX Chicago Dispatchers moving
Author: Seventyfive

Heard from a friend who works there, that CSX advised the Calumet City, Illinois Dispatchers
on June 2 that all but two desks in that office will be moved to Jacksonville. Target dates are
between August 31 and October 15. Those desks are to be moved as is, without any changes.

The two desks not moving, RA and RB, are to be combined into one;
good luck and best wishes if that comes to pass.
As one veteran DS on the RB advised me, "Eat first, and pace yourself."

What territories do the RA and RB desk cover? My timetable is very old.

Last I heard, the RB has the Blue Island, Altenheim, New Rock, and Monon Subs. And the GTW in Illinois.
The RA has the Barr, Lake, Chicago Heights, and Danville Subs, and the Garrett Sub from Suman west.
I have been out of there for 5 years and don't have their Time Table, so hope this is close to correct.

Update...I knew something didn't look right; the RA has the GTW, I believe from Munster, Indiana and west.
Thanks to espeefan for the correction. Does the Garrett Sub now begin at Suman? If I remember correctly,
the RA dispatches west of that location.

Do everything right. Know Your Limits and never exceed them. In the year that I worked (BN) Havre (MT) West, three guys did time as a result to short cutting to get it all done.

Seriously. If you make it work, they'll keep it that way.

If you continue to do too much, for too long, with too little support, you will eventually be expected to do everything.

With nothing.

Rails have that problem for a long time.

Everything is correct except the RA controls GTW (Eldson) and does not control any part of the Garrett sub.

BN moved car distributors so much that some stopped packing and lived from the boxes.

Maybe CSX is secretly controlled by United Van Lines?

Sounds like a lot of territory for one desk to handle, not in miles, but many interlockings and co-ordination with other railroads. Nothing but trains creeping in and out of yards.

Before the Conrail split, it was just one desk, from Pine west; no Monon and Danville Subs., and none of the GTW.
A clerk in the office handled 75th Street Tower, and traffic in and out of 59th Street Yard was less than now.
And it was still a challenge to do it all sensibly. After Metra Southwest gets hammered several times per week
with the new combined desk, watch for some changes.

And when the NS closes the doors at RI Jct., Porter and Pine Jct.
after they get hammered trying to get in and out of Landers.
