Date: 06/22/17 18:16 Re: dumb question Author: czephyr17 A western railroad I am familiar with uses a wood tie standard for higher traffic main lines of 19" centers, which would be 3,250 ties per mile. The same railroad uses a 24" standard for concrete ties (2,640 per mile).
Of course many branch lines or lower density main lines had wider spacing between ties. Date: 06/22/17 19:56 Re: dumb question Author: JLinDE Not a dumb Q by any means. I have nothing to contribute to this thread, but a lot of knowledgeable folks are on here, so just wait for the responses.....

Ties @ 21" or 3017 ties = 1 mile I'd like to know, what is the retail material cost of a mile of track, assuming new ties and new steel? I'd need the unit price of wood ties, stick rail, tie plate, spikes, joint bars, track bolts, and a cubic yard of ballast... Should be a straight forward spreadsheet calculation. |
